The Flooring Area Calculator works out exactly how many boxes or packs of flooring to buy for any number of rooms. Select your flooring type from the eight options — Hardwood, Laminate, LVP/SPC/Vinyl, Engineered Wood, Tile (three sizes), or Carpet. Each type has a default coverage per box based on standard industry packaging. The coverage is shown below the selector and can be overridden if your specific product has different coverage.
Choose your lay pattern. Straight or running bond uses 5–10% waste. Diagonal (45°) requires more cuts and uses 10–15%. Herringbone is the most wasteful at 15–20%. Use Custom if you want to enter your own waste percentage. The calculator applies the correct waste factor automatically.
Enter your room dimensions. The calculator starts with one room — click '+ Add Room' to add as many rooms as you need. Each room has its own length and width with an ft/m toggle, so you can mix metric and imperial rooms if needed. Each room shows its individual area as you type. Give each room a label (Living Room, Master Bedroom, etc.) by clicking on the room name.
Optionally enter the coverage per box from your product label — this overrides the default. Also enter your price per box for a material cost estimate. Coverage per box varies widely even within the same product category, so always check the label before buying.
Read the results: total area in sq ft, m², and sq yd, area with waste added, number of boxes or packs to order (always round up — never round down), and total material cost. The area summary in the right panel shows all three unit formats side by side.
