Conception Date Calculator — 3 Methods

The Conception Date Calculator estimates the date of conception using three methods: from EDD (due date − 266 days), from LMP and cycle length (LMP + cycle_length − 14 days), or from today's gestational age (working back to LMP then forward 13 days to ovulation). Results show the estimated conception date with day of w..

Informational only: Conception date is an estimate. Only your healthcare provider can confirm the exact date of conception using ultrasound measurements. Results are ±4 days accuracy.

HOW TO USE

  1. 1

Choose your calculation method based on what you already know. 'Due Date (EDD)' works backwards from your estimated due date — the most accurate method if you have a first-trimester ultrasound date. 'Last Menstrual Period' calculates forward from your LMP and cycle length. 'Gestational Age Today' works if you know your current weeks and days pregnant from a scan or pregnancy app.

  2. 2

Enter the relevant date or values for your method. For EDD, enter your due date as given by your doctor or scan. For LMP, enter the first day of your last period and your cycle length (21-45 days). For gestational age, enter your current weeks and days pregnant — the calculator uses today's date as the reference point.

  3. 3

Read your results: the estimated conception date shown in full day-of-week format (e.g. Tuesday, January 14, 2025), the conception window spanning ±4 days around the estimated date, your LMP, and your due date. If your pregnancy is ongoing, today's gestational age and the number of days since estimated conception are also shown.

  4. 4

Check the conception timeline on the right — a horizontal track with colour-coded markers for LMP (red), fertile window (yellow highlight), conception day (green star), today if applicable (blue), and due date (purple). The key dates list below the timeline shows all five events with their exact dates.

  5. 5

Read the 'How Conception Works' day-by-day guide showing what happens from day 1 (LMP) to day 28+ (missed period). The accuracy comparison panel shows which method gives the most precise estimate — EDD-based calculation from a first-trimester ultrasound (±3-5 days) is the most accurate approach.

WORKED EXAMPLE

Conception Date Calculator — worked examples: METHOD 1: FROM EDD Due date (EDD): October 8, 2025 Conception = Oct 8 − 266 days = January 15, 2025 (Wednesday) Window = Jan 11 – Jan 19, 2025 (±4 days) LMP = Oct 8 − 280 days = January 1, 2025 Verification: LMP + 280 = Jan 1 + 280 = Oct 8 ✓ LMP + 14 = Jan 14 (ovulation day for 28-day cycle) Oct 8 − 266 = Jan 15 (1 day after ovulation = window centre) Note: slight offset because EDD formula uses 266 from conception, but conception ≈ day 14 not day 15 METHOD 2: FROM LMP (28-day cycle) LMP: January 1, 2025 Cycle length: 28 days Ovulation day = 28 − 14 = 14 (cycle day) Offset = 14 − 1 = 13 (0-indexed from LMP) Conception = Jan 1 + 13 days = January 14, 2025 Window = Jan 9 – Jan 15, 2025 EDD = Jan 1 + 280 = October 8, 2025 METHOD 2: FROM LMP (30-day cycle) LMP: January 1, 2025 Cycle length: 30 days Ovulation day = 30 − 14 = 16 Conception = Jan 1 + 15 days = January 16, 2025 Window = Jan 11 – Jan 17, 2025 METHOD 3: FROM GESTATIONAL AGE Today: April 14, 2025, GA = 14 weeks 5 days Total days = 14×7 + 5 = 103 days LMP = Apr 14 − 103 days = January 1, 2025 Conception = LMP + 13 = January 14, 2025 EDD = LMP + 280 = October 8, 2025 EMBRYONIC AGE vs GESTATIONAL AGE: GA = 14w5d = 103 days from LMP Embryonic age = 103 − 14 = 89 days ≈ 12w5d from conception Baby is 12 weeks 5 days old from fertilisation, but 14 weeks 5 days by clinical dating

REFERENCE FORMULAS

FORMULA REFERENCE TABLE

MethodFormulaDescription
From EDDConception = EDD − 266 daysEDD = LMP + 280. Conception ≈ LMP + 14. So Conception = EDD − (280-14) = EDD − 266.
From LMPConception = LMP + (cycle_length − 14 − 1)Ovulation on day = cycle_length − 14. Conception assumed on ovulation day. −1 converts to 0-indexed offset.
From gestational ageLMP = today − (weeks×7 + days); Conception = LMP + 13GA is counted from LMP. Conception estimated at day 14 of cycle (LMP + 13 offset).
Conception windowWindow = conception ± 4 daysSperm survive 3-5 days; egg survives 12-24h. Window is approximately 6 days centred on ovulation.
LMP from EDDLMP = EDD − 280 daysNaegele's rule reversed. The standard 40-week pregnancy measured from LMP.
EDD from conceptionEDD = conception + 266 days (38 weeks)From fertilisation to birth: 38 weeks. From LMP: 40 weeks (includes 2 pre-conception weeks).
Embryonic ageEmbryonic age = gestational age − 14 daysEmbryonic age counts from conception. Gestational age counts from LMP. Difference = ~2 weeks (ovulation lag).
