PLAN COMPARISON

Compare up to 3 health plans side-by-side across all 4 cost scenarios. Click "Compare Plans" to open the comparison tool.

HOW TO USE

  1. 1

Select your plan type — HMO, PPO, EPO, or HDHP. Only HDHPs (High Deductible Health Plans) are eligible for a Health Savings Account (HSA).

  2. 2

Select Individual or Family coverage. This affects the HSA contribution limit — $4,300 for individuals and $8,550 for families in 2025.

  3. 3

Enter your monthly premium — this is what you pay per month for coverage, before employer contribution.

  4. 4

Enter your employer's monthly contribution if applicable. The calculator deducts this to show your net monthly cost.

  5. 5

Enter your annual deductible — the amount you pay 100% of before insurance starts sharing costs.

  6. 6

Enter your out-of-pocket maximum — the most you will ever pay in a single plan year. Once hit, insurance covers 100% of covered services.

  7. 7

Select your coinsurance percentage — what you pay after the deductible (typically 10%–30%). The insurer pays the rest up to your OOP max.

  8. 8

If your plan is an HDHP, enter your planned HSA contribution to see your tax savings. Select your tax bracket to get an accurate figure.

  9. 9

Click 'Compare Plans' to open the side-by-side plan comparison tool and find which plan is cheapest for your expected usage level.

WORKED EXAMPLE

Example: Monthly premium $450, deductible $3,000, OOP max $7,000, coinsurance 20%, no employer contribution. Annual premium = $5,400. Healthy year (no claims): total = $5,400. Moderate use ($2,400 in claims, below deductible): you pay $2,400 + $5,400 premium = $7,800. Heavy use ($10,500 in claims): you pay deductible $3,000 + coinsurance on $7,500 = $1,500, capped at OOP max $7,000 → total $5,400 + $7,000 = $12,400. Worst case (above OOP max): you pay $5,400 premium + $7,000 OOP max = $12,400 regardless of total claims. HSA contribution $3,850 at 22% tax rate: saves $847/yr, effective annual premium = $5,400 − $847 = $4,553.
